Fort Schuyler House is an eight-story building consisting of 138 senior residential apartments. It was the visionary creation of the late Reverend Howard Weaving, a beloved member of the Throggs Neck community in the Bronx, New York.
In the late l 960's Reverend Weaving formed a collaborative relationship with PSS (Presbyterian Senior Services) and guided the construction of the project under the New York State Mitchell Lama Program and HUD 236 Loan Program. Fort Schuyler House opened in 1973 offering safe, secure living for seniors ages 62 and over who can live independently. It consists of 22 one - bedroom and 116 studio apartments.
In December 2017 Fort Schuyler House converted to a Low Income Housing Tax Credit property. This provided the opportunity for Fort Schuyler House to undergo major renovations which commenced in 2018 and continued through 2019. These renovations included each apartment, the common areas and the landscaping surrounding the building. The addition of the Low Income Tax Credit program provides tenants in 130 of our apartments with a New York State rent stabilized lease and Section 8 subsidy through the subsidy monitor CVR of New York.
